1.Host: UNEP

UNEP coordinates United Nations’ environmental activities, providing leadership and encouraging partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations.

It was founded as a result of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment in June 1972 and has its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. UNEP also has six regional offices and various liaison offices.

2. Organizer: UNEP National Committee for the Republic of Korea

UNEP National committees have been set up under the Governing Council (GC) Decision 13/33 of 1985 which authorized the establishment of national environmental committees world-wide in order to support the activities of UNEP.

UNEP National Committees are established in order to increase public awareness of the mandate and functions of UNEP, promote public support for its work, increase public awareness of environmental problems and the steps necessary to deal with them, mobilize public support for the provision of adequate resources for the solution of environmental problems, and provide an additional forum for participating members to share information and experiences in the context of UNEP's programme and the work of the United Nations.

UNEP National Committee for the Republic of Korea (UNEP Korea) was established on Feburary 14, 1996 as the 13th UNEP’s national committee, supported by UNEP headquarter and UNEP Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific. UNEP Korea aims to advocate and implement UNEP’s policies, guidelines and programs in Korea in cooperation with diverse stakeholders such as government, private sector and civil society.

UNEP Korea is also tried to increase public’s awareness of environmental issues through providing educational programs for children, youth, university students and civil society for sustainable development, and offering information on international environmental issues and reports.
